Plant characters:

Eucommia ulmoides is a deciduous tree with a height of 20 meters and a diameter at breast height of about 50 cm.

Bark gray brown, rough, containing rubber, broken open, with many filaments. The young branch has yellowish brown hair, soon becomes bald, and the old branch has obvious lenticels. The spore is ovoid, shiny outside, reddish brown, with 6-8 scales and micro hairs on the edge.

Leaves elliptic, ovate or oblong, thin leathery, 6-15 cm long and 3.5-6.5 cm wide. Base rounded or broadly cuneate, apex acuminate; The upper part is dark green, with brown hairs at the beginning, and soon becomes bald. The old leaves are slightly wrinkled, and the lower part is light green, with brown hairs at the beginning, and then only hairs on the veins. Lateral veins 6-9 pairs, sunken above with reticulate veins, slightly raised below, margin serrate, petiole 1-2 cm long, above grooved, covered with scattered long hairs.

Female flowers solitary, bracts obovate, pedicel 8 mm long, ovary glabrous, 1-locular, flat and long, apex 2-lobed, ovary stalk very short. Samara flat, oblong, 3-3.5 cm long, 1-1.3 cm wide, apex 2-lobed, base cuneate, with thin wings around.
